About us

Welcome to the 1st Myland Scout Group (our full title is 1st Myland St Michaels 35th Colchester).

The Group has been running since 1956 and continues to provide fun, friendship, adventure and good quality scouting for youngsters from the local area. Our Group consists of a Beaver Colony for (6-8 year olds), a Cub Pack for (8-10½ year olds), and a Scout Troop for (10½-14 year olds). We aim to encourage and help the young people as part of our group to grow from the dependant new beaver scout into the confident independent scout ready to move on to explorers knowing that they can make decisions, do things individually, work as part of a team and know when to ask for help! And are willing and able to learn new things, also take part in activities and challenges they may not otherwise have been able to do. Thus empowering them to make a positive contribution to society. This is achieved by following the Scout Association program, values and method:- For more information on this follow the link to The Scout Association‘s website.

The Group is associated with St Michael’s Church, where we are invited to join in the Family Service for our Church Parades. We usually parade about 5 times a year. Parents and other family members are of course welcome to the service and afterward for coffee, tea, and biscuits.

We are one of the 17 groups in the Colchester North District Our Scouts at age 14 feed into one of the local Explorer Scout units
Our HQ is Myland Parish Halls we meet on Thursday evenings.

HM King Charles III has been confirmed as our new Patron, a great honour for UK Scouts.

The King continues a long tradition of the monarch giving their Patronage, dating back to 1912. This was when Scouts was granted its Royal Charter and HM George V became our first Patron.
