Your New GSL

Date: 18th Dec 2018 Author: Scout Websites

Firstly, let me introduce myself. I’m Neil Greenwood the new Group Scout Leader (GSL) of 1st Myland – St. Michaels Scout Group. I took over from Bill Miller who after many years looking after the Scout Group has decided to retire from the position. We have not lost him from the group as he remains as an Assistant Cub Leader as well as holding an Assistant District Commissioner of Cubs role. I thank Bill for his time as GSL and for the ease of handover by ensuring that the Group was extremely well organised and running smoothly.

We currently have 10 children of Beaver age on our waiting list with a further 16 reaching Beaver age in the next 12 months. We very much regret that we can’t currently invest these children into the Scout Groups Beaver Colony as we are currently at our maximum intake. The Myland housing expansion has increased the number of parents wanting their children to attend Beavers in their catchment area. Our waiting list will only get larger in the next few terms. Due to this the North Colchester District Team have requested that I investigate opening a 2nd Beaver Colony located in the Myland area and planning has already commenced.

Our current Leader Team have committed to help train a new Leader Team to run this 2nd Colony but due to their own busy schedules they can’t commit to running the new Colony. So, I’m looking for volunteers to help open this new Colony and to accept such positions as Section Leader, Assistant Leader and Occasional Helper under my supervision and guidance. No initial experience is necessary as training will be given. But for some roles there are mandatory training modules to complete over a three year period. The success of a new Colony in the Myland area rides on me being able to recruit enough volunteers to make this possible. If you believe you are the right person to commit to any of these voluntary positions can you please contact me on or call me Mon to Sun on 07818 411117. I look forward in hearing from you.

Please let me take this opportunity to thank our Leader Team for their ongoing hard work and commitment in running their Scouting Sections. Also, I would like to thank our Committee Team and the parents of the Group. as without your ongoing support 1st Myland Scout Group would not be the success it is today.
