On Saturday 14th May the group celebrated its 60th anniversary with an open event in the Parish Halls H.Q, with displays of items and photographs depicting the history of the group.

The afternoon was very busy indeed with people dropping in from near and far. We were extremely pleased and lucky that founder member of the group and former Colchester MP now the towns High Steward, .Sir Bob Russell had invited the UK Chief Commissioner Wayne Bulpitt, who was in town for another event, to come along. Wayne was introduced to some of the group members he also browsed through some of the photographs and memorabilia, and also signed the visitor book. Other visitors included past leaders or helpers and some that were cubs and scouts in the in the late 50’s and early 60’s Including former Leader John Vaughan now a Chelsea Pensioner in his bright red coat. Lots of Tea, Coffee, and cake was also consumed during the afternoon.

The Colchester Scout Band came along and played Three, Twenty-minute sessions during the afternoon this was enjoyed by all.

All in all the event was a huge success.
